What is continuous variable transmission?
Continuous transmission has actually
been around for more than 100 years, but only recently began appearing
in cars, the
CVT
has no gears, friction plates, hydraulic fluids or torque converter.
Instead, it uses a simple belt-and-pulley design, which enables
it to closely match the transmission ratios with the optimum rpm
range of the engine for better power delivery and increased fuel
efficiency. It is used mostly in light industrial applications.
Recent advancements in materials and microprocessor technology have
made CVTs more suitable for automobiles
