Below are some of the latest hybrid cars in production:
Hybrid Toyota Camry 2006:
America's best selling car model, the Camry, will be built on
America soil. Toyota will begin making as many as 48,000 Camry Hybrids
in Georgetown, Kentucky, starting in late 2006. Production of the
Camry hybrid is slated to begin in late 2006 at the company's Georgetown,
Ky., plant, making it the company's first U.S.-built hybrid. No
price has been announced yet for the hybrid Camry, but hybrids typically
cost $3,000-$5,000 more than gas-only siblings. A $2,000 federal
tax credit for 2005 helps defray the cost, as does the significantly
higher mileage, which can range from 25 to 50 percent better than
similarly sized gasoline vehicles.
Chevrolet Malibu: Expected in 2007
The hybridized Malibu sedan is targeted for
a 12 – 15% increase in fuel economy (mostly coming from idle-stop)
and will focus its hybrid benefits on extra power and sportier handling.
Toyota Camry hybrid: Expected in 2007
Production of the Camry hybrid is slated to begin in late 2006 at
the company's Georgetown, Ky., plant, making it the company's first
U.S.-built hybrid.
Nissan Altima Hybrid: Expected in 2007
Nissan has announced that it will license gas-electric hybrid
engine technology from Toyota for use in a hybrid version of the
Nissan Altima. The new car's scheduled to hit showrooms in 2006.
At the same time, Nissan intends to continue developing an alternative
hybrid technology in-house, while it also works on cleaner-burning
diesel engines and fuel cell technology.
Dodge Ram Hybrid
Daimler- Chrysler produced its mild-hybrid Dodge Ram
truck. With 325 horse power Dodge Ram hybrid offers the first diesel-electric
available. It has 15 percent better fuel efficiency, lower emissions
and better performance than the comparably-powered conventional
Ram.
