Hybrid Engine: Escape Hybrid’s 2.3L I4 “Atkinson
Cycle” gasoline engine is a dual-overhead-cam design with four
valves per
cylinder. The special “Atkinson Cycle” improves fuel efficiency
when combined with the electric motor, boosting the
horsepower to 155 for V6-like acceleration. |

Navigation System: The optional Hybrid Energy Audio
& Navigation System gives you a 6-CD changer, navigation
capability with full map and turn-by-turn voice direction, fuel
economy display and energy-flow diagram that shows how the engine,
motor and battery are being used.
Instrument gauge indicates the battery charge level or if
it is assisting the engine with an added boost.

|
Power Outlet: Behind the sleek floor shifter is an
optional 110-volt AC power outlet that can be used to plug in
electrical items
you might bring along. No adaptor necessary. This is one
of the few vehicles that supports this feature. |
| |
Intelligent 4WD System: Completely automatic and always
on, the available Intelligent 4WD System constantly
monitors wheel speed and throttle input to provide maximum traction.
Sensors let the system’s computer calculate the right amount
of torque to send to the rear wheels, minimizing
slip. And it all happens so quickly – up to 200 times per second.
|
Regenerative Braking: This technology recaptures energy
normally lost during braking and stores it as
electricity in the battery pack. It simply recharges itself.
|
Electric Motor: – Because it’s a full hybrid, it can
run on the electric motor only* in regular stop-and-go driving.
Up to speeds of 25 mph, in fact. And when the gas engine is
running, the electric motor helps provide an extra
boost of power for V6-like acceleration. |
Gasoline Engine – By design, this 2.3L engine is already
fuel efficient. But add to it an innovative stop/start
function that shuts the engine down at stoplights, during low
speeds or when coasting downhill, and the fuel
savings increase. |
